Navy seals say when you are under pressure you don't rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training . The same applies to dog training. Whether it be dogs trained for protection work or dogs trained in obedience training. For example, when training a dog for protection duties, teaching the dog to bite on command will not be enough. We will work on different scenarios and work under pressure so the dog will readily respond if necessary. The same applies to basic obedience training. Teaching the commands is not enough. The dog also needs to be taught to perform the commands in different places, with distractions, kids, dogs, other animals, vehicles etc.
If training always happens in a quiet place without distractions , when we find ourselves in an environment with more stimuli, we will be unpleasantly surprised. The otherwise perfectly trained dog will not cooperate.
Only when the dog has learned to perform the commands and cooperate regardless the circumstances, can we say that training is complete.
The goal is a complete training and a dog that will cooperate, work under any circumstances. This is achieved by training a dog timely and properly.
